James Barrow

SARANAC LAKE -James R. Barrow, 84, of Lake Clear, died Tuesday, Aug. 30, 2011 at his home.

Born in Riverview on July 11, 1927, he was the son of George and Delvina (Corrow) Barrow. James, married Thetis "Pete" Tero June 30, 1962 in Chazy. Thetis predeceased him on April 10, 2004.

Mr. Barrow was a life-long resident of the area. He served in the Army during WWII and Korea. He had been employed by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation in the maintenance department for 28 years, retiring in 1989. Mr. Barrow continued to work summers for a few years at Fish Creek and Rollins Pond campsites. He was an outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. He also liked to frequent the Airport Diner and McKenzies. He especially enjoyed being with his grandchildren and enjoyed travelling to their hockey, lacrosse and baseball games.

He is survived by a daughter, Karen Pittman and husband David of Lake Clear; a brother, William Barrow and wife Theresa of Lake Clear; three step-sons: Gerald Lacey and Diana of Auburn, Wayne Lacey and wife Socorro of Orlando, Fla. and Timothy Lacey of Saranac Lake; three grandchildren: David, Matthew and Ashley Pittman; six step-grandchildren: Timothy, James, Stacia, Angie, Patrick and Melissa Lacey; two sisters: Patricia Perry of Riverview and Janet LaMora of Redford; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, George Barrow, and his mother, Delvina Corrow Barrow.

Calling hours will take place from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 3 at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with the Rev. Harold Clark officiating. Interment will take place at St. John's Cemetery at a later date.

Friends wishing to remember James may make memorial contributions to High Peaks Hospice, the Tri Lakes Humane Society or the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department in care of the funeral home.
