Walter Barrett, 81, died July 12, 2011 at his home in Saranac Lake, after a short illness. Born April 4, 1930 in Tupper Lake. He attended Tupper Lake Schools and went on to serve in the United States Army. He was a member of Company "C" 323rd Engineer Battalion during the Korean War from 1951-1953. On February 27, 1954 he married Imogene Wallace Chapman at St. Alphonsus Church.
Mr. Barrett worked as a plumber for JA Lydamore and more recent worked 37 years at the Veterans Administration Hospital / Sunmount DDSO as Chief of Housekeeping.
He served with his wife on Tupper Lake Rescue Squad as an EMT/driver for 16 years. Walter loved betting on the horses, woodworking, carpentry and traveling
He is survived by his beloved wife Imogene Barrett, four children, Carol Ann Barrett, Walter Milson Barrett Jr. and his wife Carol Duval-Barrett, Michael Francis Barrett and Susan Barrett and her companion Matthew Messmer. Five grandchildren Elizabeth, Patrick, Joella, Angela and Emily and three great-grandchildren, Landon, Brooklyn and Rachael. He was predeceased by a sister Lorraine Barrett.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday July 17th from 4 pm-7pm at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Tupper Lake. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 18th at 11:30 a.m. at St. Alphonsus Church. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery with full military honors.
