Mary Baker

Mary D. Baker, age 85, formerly of Saranac Village at Will Rogers and 17 Shepard Ave in Saranac Lake, died Sunday, February 05, 2012 at AMC Uihlein in Lake Placid where she had been a resident since 2010.

Born in Saranac Lake, New York on December 7, 1926, she was the daughter of Walter and Margaret (Burke) Duffy. She married Clyde Baker August 1, 1953. He predeceased her on May 31, 1974.

Mary had been employed as the Treasurer for the Saranac Lake Central School District for 23 years until her retirement in 1991. She was very active volunteer in her church and the community. Mary served as a Den Mother for the Boy Scouts of America, volunteered for the Heart Association and served as an election monitor. She was a member of the St. Bernard’s Church Choir, volunteered regularly at the rectory office and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court St. Bernard. She also was a member of the Ladies of the Elk and later became a member of the Saranac Lake Elks Lodge BPOE 1508. Mary also belonged to the 6:45 AM Coffee Club.

She is survived by three sons Brian Baker and his wife Linda Murphy of Lafayette, CA, Paul Baker and his wife Becky of Pittsford, NY, Clyde Baker and his wife Suzanne Rice of Saranac Lake, NY, three daughters Kathy Baker of Saratoga Springs, NY, Carol Baker and her wife Kelly Wight of Saranac Lake, NY, and Colleen Olson and her husband Dan of Saranac Lake, NY, one brother Walter Duffy and his wife Charland of Saranac Lake, NY, two sisters Patricia Oddy and her husband Tom of Saranac Lake, NY, and Margaret Salamy of Tupper Lake, NY, eight grandchildren Scot, Shannon, & Eric Baker of Pittsford, NY, David and Peter Snyder of Saranac Lake, Sam Baker of Saranac Lake, NY, and Murphy and Riley Baker of Lafayette, CA, one step granddaughter Maria Bosford of Wilmington and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, mother and one son Gary Baker.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 8, 2012 from 4:00 PM - 7:00 PM. An Elks service will take place at 6:45 PM on Wednesday evening at the funeral home. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Thursday at St. Bernard’s Church. Burial will take place in the spring at St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
