TUPPER LAKE- Joyce (Baker) Amell, 77, of Tupper Lake passed away unexpectedly and peacefully at home on Thursday, April 28th. She was born on July 11, 1933 in Saranac Lake, the daughter of Hazel and David Baker. Joyce grew up in Saranac Lake and moved to Tupper Lake after marrying Richard Amell on November 15, 1949. He pre-deceased her on January 14, 2001. She was a very proud and devoted mother of 8 children, 20 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. She worked for ten years for the Franklin County Home Health Services giving loving care to many Tupper Lake residents. Joyce loved gardening, bird watching and enjoying nature with her many grandchildren. Most of all she loved walks to her gazebo and sanctuary which was the perfect environment for sharing stories and teaching family members about her love of the outdoors and nature. She was a very active 4-H leader for many years teaching many young people about horses, gardening, sewing, knitting and baking. She also volunteered at the L.P. Quinn school as a grandparent and classroom assistant. Most of all, Joyce enjoyed her home and spending time with her family. Occasionally she would venture to Vermont to visit her daughter and family there. Joyce is survived by her children, 4 daughters and 4 sons; Paula and her husband Larry Bona of Waterford, VT., Richard Jr. (Richie) of Tupper Lake, Laura Martin of Bloomingdale, Cindy and her husband Bill Kentile of Tupper Lake, Roger and his wife Mary Kay of Tupper Lake, Randy and his wife Holly of Tupper Lake, Bill and his wife Kathy of Tupper Lake, Jayda and her husband Kurt Strader of Tupper Lake, grandhildren, Erik and his wife Vicki, Nicole and her husband Eriks, Heidi, Melissa and her husband Ole, Tawnya, Amanda, Erin, Lora and her husband Jessie, Angee, Jessee, Kayla and her husband Justin, Jason, Troy, Sarah, Riley, Jeremy, Tyler, Kristen, Jaden, Kylin; great-grandchildren, Wesley, Evan, Matiss, Gavin, Sienna, Quinn, Reece, Hayden, Leila, Loran, Jessie, Emma, Liam, Ashton, Michael, Chelsea, Courtney, Matthew, Katara, Alia, Teagan, 2 brothers, Bill Baker of Saranac Lake, Ronald Baker of Caledonia, NY, sisters in law Frances Reandeau of Tupper Lake and April Baker of Caledonia, NY. as well as many nieces and nephews. She was pre-deceased by her parents, husband, brother in law and two sisters in law. A memorial service in her honor was held at the Stuart-Fortune-Keough FH on April 30th.
