Isabellea "Izzy" M. Amell, age 96, formerly of 48 Margaret Street, Saranac Lake, NY died Saturday, January 30, 2010 at Meadow Brook Nursing Home in Plattsburgh where she had been a resident since September 2008
Born in Vermontville, New York on May 22, 1913, she was the daughter of Allen and Lorena (Skiff) Fletcher. She married Clarence Amell on April 2, 1934. He predeceased her on January 5, 1970.
Izzy was born, raised and married in the same house in Vermontville, NY. She moved from Vermontville to Saranac Lake in 1942. For many years she worked for various dry cleaners in the area including; Vitullo Brothers as a presser and a clerk, for Jackson's as a manager, for Ortloff’s as a presser and for United as a presser and clerk retiring in 1975. She later worked at the Saranac Lake Adult Center in the kitchen and dining room until 1988 when she retried permanently.
She was preceded in death by her husband, father, mother and two brothers Lee Fletcher in 1977 and Francis Fletcher in 1961. She is survived by many friends, including one of her dearest friends of 68 years, Pearl Tuthill of Saranac Lake.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. At Izzy's request there will be no calling hours or funeral services. A private burial will take place in the spring at the Mountain View/Brighton Cemetery in Gabriels, NY.
