Deborah Amell

Deborah Ann Amell, age 57, formerly of Bloomingdale, died peacefully Wednesday, April 13, 2016 at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Hospital in New York City.

Born in Saranac Lake, New York on December 20, 1958, she was the daughter of Raymond and Jean (Saumier) Amell.

Debbie attended and graduated from Saranac Lake High School in 1977. She received her Bachelors degree and her dual Masters degree in Education and Administration from Plattsburgh State University. Debbie had worked at the Credit Union and the Marine Midland Bank in Saranac Lake for many years. She later worked as the principal at St. Bernard’s School in Saranac Lake and St. Agnes School in Lake Placid. Debbie was very active in the Catholic Church in various capacities. She especially loved playing her guitar. Debbie's life was best known for the contagious smile on her face and the love that she carried for her family and friends whom she always held dear to her heart.

She is survived by one son Brandon (Courtney) Macey of Glenville, NY, one daughter Amy (Jospeh) Tangel of Long Island, NY, three grandchildren Joey and Hailey Tangel and Waylon Macey, four brothers Donald (Cindy) Amell of Bloomingdale, Paul Amell of Saranac Lake, Larry Amell of Galway, and Stephen (Kerry Munn) Amell of Bloomindale, two sisters Sandra Amell of Las Vegas, NV and Brenda (Wayne) Darrah of Bloomingdale, her former husband Paul Macey of Bloomingdale, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father and mother.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Saturday, April 16, 2016 from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at 12:30 PM at St. Paul’s Oratory in Bloomingdale with Patrick Ratigan officiating. Burial will follow at St. Paul's Cemetery in Bloomingdale.
