Michael I Alexander also known as “Big Mike” was born Novermber15th 1955 has passed away peacefully at his home in Saranac Lake surrounded by his family and friends early morning of November 22, 2017.
Michaels love for basketball was larger than life. So much that back home in the Bronx his friends referred to him as Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. As a matter of fact he signed his name as “Jabbar”. When Michael was younger he took the time to teach under privileged children the game of basketball. Michael could often be found at the local park playing basketball with the village police and anyone willing to play or just shoot hoops.
Even as his health was declining the local Men’s Basketball team wanted him on the team.
Bowling at Romano’s was another sport you could often find Michael playing when he wasn’t on the basketball court, sometimes even playing 35 games a day.
Michael had a unique way of expressing himself threw art and music. He had a voice you could hear a mile away and more often than not you could hear him singing “My Girl.”
Michael was predeceased by his mother Mildred Alexander and his father Willie Clay, and two brothers Richie Alexander and Edward Alexander.
Michael is survived by two sisters Debra Hill and Mildred Davis, many nieces and nephews. Michael is also survived by many close friends with in the local community.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake, on Wednesday November 29, 2017 from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. A memorial service will immediately follow at 5:00 PM at the funeral home.
