Carol Gladd

December 16, 1937 — December 13, 2023

Carol S. Gladd died on Wednesday December 15, 2023 surrounded by love and family. She had been a resident of Elderwood of Uihlein for over 5 years with advanced Alzheimer’s. Her family is so very grateful for the love and care she received.

Carol was born to Caroline and John Lawrence Stott on December 16th, 1937. She attended Saranac Lake High School and North Country Community College. She married Richard N. Gladd in 1955 and they enjoyed 53 years of marriage together until his death in 2008. She had a lifelong love of animals. Her dog, Magee accompanied her to Elementary school and slept under her desk. She was one of the founders of The Tri Lakes Humane Society.

She accompanied one of her sisters-in-law to a home health aide course which changed the direction of her life.

She became a nurses’ aide at the Adirondack Medical Center and served for 25 years caring for patients. She was described as a wonderful caregiver and a favorite of patients. She was known to go above and beyond, keeping her lotion warm to do soothing back rubs or going in on her day off to help a patient get “dolled up” to have visitors. She was also a member of the REACT (Radio, Emergency Associated Citizen’s Teams) Club.

Carol would have been 86 on Saturday the 16th. She always had a strong will and chose to spend this birthday and the holidays with her loved ones in Heaven.

Carol was the last to survive of all of her siblings including her in-laws. She was predeceased by her parents, husband and her son Michael G. Gladd. Her brothers Lloyd (Dorothy) Stott and Harold. Her sister E. Joyce (Charles) Strong. Her brothers-in-law Francis (Charlotte), Robert (Noreen) and Ronald (Martha) Gladd and her sisters-in-law Margaret (Bernard) Vancour, Doris (Peter) Farrell, Marion Gladd, Jeanne (H. Edward) Duso, and

Shirley (Leon) Harvey. Several nieces and nephews.

Carol is survived by her daughters, Patti (Dale) Finlayson, of Loon Lake, Michelle (Otis Scranton) Simmons of Corinth and Tina (John) Clark of Vermontville. Her grandchildren, Kevin (Abbie Martin) Clark of N. Attleboro, MA, Megan Clark of Mendon, MA, Sherri (Shane) Trombley of Morrisonville, Kyle (Maria) Clark of N. Bangor, Matthew (Leah) Finlayson, Elizabeth (Terence Barrett) Finlayson of Saranac Lake, Savannah (Morgan Kilroy) Simmons of Tupper Lake, Jeffrey (Arthur) Gladd of Austin, TX and Megan (Shawn Snyder) Simmons of Bloomingdale.
