It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of Jean Fitzgerald, who departed this world on October 6, 2023, in the comfort of her own home, cradled in the loving embrace of her devoted son. Jean’s departure was a testament to her unwavering spirit and determination, as she chose to bid farewell on her own terms. Her final moments were filled with the warmth and solace of family, providing her with the utmost comfort and love. Though we mourn her loss deeply, we take solace in knowing that Jean’s journey was marked by strength, grace, and the presence of those she cherished most.

Jean Fitzgerald was born in Niagara Falls, NY in June 1926 to Bill and Edna (Appleby) Dusher. She graduated from Niagara Falls High School in 1944. In August of 1947 she married Jack Fitzgerald who preceded her in 2000; they were happily married for 53 years. She worked as an office manager for Doctors Butsunturn and Mohamed, and retired in 1984. She and Jack traveled extensively.

In 1944 Jean joined the Flagler Chapter #355 Order of the Eastern Star where she served as Worthy Matron and District Deputy Grand Matron. She became a 75 year member in 2019. Jean had an unwavering loyalty and undying devotion to the New York Yankees and was known for recalling countless baseball statistics.

Jean moved to Saranac Lake in 2006 at the age of 80, and immediately began to make friends with everyone she met. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Saranac Lake, and volunteered for many years at Adirondack Medical Center.

She is survived by her son Doug (Janice) Fitzgerald of Saranac Lake, five grandchildren, Jeff (Allison) Bathrick, Jennifer (Ken) Bathrick, Jesse (Renee) Fitzgerald, Brian (Danielle) Fitzgerald, and John Fitzgerald. Her beloved great grandchildren, Hadley, Autumn, Grace, Ella, and Finn Fitzgerald, as well as Jackson Spitzer. She is also survived by many dear friends; some of whom she was like a second mother. She was preceded in death by her husband Jack in 2000, and daughter Sandra in 1994.

At Jean’s request, there will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at the Saranac Lake First Presbyterian Church Friday, October 13th at 1:00pm with a reception to follow. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Niagara Falls at the convenience of the family.
