Janet Ploof

Janet M. Ploof, age 86, of Saranac Lake and formerly of St. Regis Falls, died Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at the Essex Center in Elizabethtown surrounded by family.

Born in St. Regis Falls, New York on October 15, 1936, she was the daughter of Efard and Lillian (Merrill) Cummings. Janet married Robert Ploof on Saturday, July 16, 1955 in St. Regis Falls, NY. Robert predeceased her on September 6, 2022.

Janet was a lifelong resident of St. Regis Falls, NY, and worked in many different venues. She was a lifeguard, waitress, an aide in a nursing home and most important to her was being a mom.

Janet and Bob raised a family of six children of whom they were very proud.

Janet is survived by one daughter: Sheryl (Richard) Moulton of Winthrop, NY, five sons: Michael (Patti) of Saranac Lake, David of Gabriels, NY, William (Terri Penn) of Waddington, NY, Robert (Pam) of Texas and Neil (Kristen) of North Carolina. She is also survived by four sisters Kathleen Richards of Brushton, NY, Sharon Potter of Fort Plain, NY, Cecilia (Clayton) Trimm of North Lawrence, NY, Donna Mussaw of Tennessee 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

Janet was preceded in death by her father, mother and one brother Allan Cummings.

Funeral Arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A mass of Christian burial for Robert and Janet Ploof is set to take place at St. Anne’s Church in St. Regis Falls on Friday May 19, 2023 at 10:00 am with Rev. Alfred Fish officiating. Burial will follow at St. Anne’s Cemetery.
