Thirza Ecker

Thirza Jean Ecker, age 97, of Saranac Lake, died Tuesday, March 23, 2021 at AMC-Mercy Health Care Center in Tupper Lake.

Born in Utica, New York on March 26, 1923, she was the daughter of Floyd and Mabelle (Kinney) Ecker. Unitarian Universalist.

Thirza was born and raised in Utica, NY where she attended and graduated from Utica Free Academy. She later attended and graduated in 1944 from the Strong Memorial School of Nursing in Rochester, NY as a registered nurse. She had been employed by the Oneida County Department of Social Services for 19 years until her retirement in 1985. She volunteered for 14 years at Sagamore Camp, she enjoyed the outdoors and was a member of the Trenton Trail Hiking Club. Thirza moved to Saranac Lake in 2001.

She is survived by her son Charles (Linda) Ecker of North Venice, FL, her niece Catherine (Norman) Lacey of Great Valley, NY, her nephew David (Kathleen Biliskos) Jackson of Stuart, FL, her niece Cynthia (Tom) Snyder of Temple, TX, her great nieces and nephews Eric Feldbauer Kevin Lacey, David Snyder, Amy Snyder and her great-great niece Sydney Feldbauer. She was preceded in death by her father Floyd Ecker, her mother Mabelle Kinney, her brother Elton Ecker, and her sister Evelyn Jackson.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. Burial will take place at Mohawk Cemetery in Mohawk, NY.
