Robert “Bob” Charles Place passed away peacefully at home in Onchiota on September 15, 2020.

A member of the Place family of Dutchess County, New York, he was born on November 29, 1937 in Poughkeepsie to Charles Alfred and Mary Rose (Woods) Place.

Both parents predeceased him as well as his brother Vincent Place, his wife of 30 years Dorothy May Place and his stepdaughter Patricia Strack.

He is survived by his wife Marjorie M. Place (Gowett), brother Donald Place, daughter Loretta D. Davis and son in law Robert J. Davis of Beekman, two sons: James D. Place of Marlboro, Fl and Kenneth M. Place of Florida. Bob was proud to have served in the Army from 1955 to 1958. He went on to work for the NYS Department of Corrections from 1959 until 1984 and worked at the Saranac Lake Quarry from 1991 until 2001. He was a member of American Legion Post 504, Moose Club and Eagles Club. He spent the winters for the last 15 years in Old Town Florida. Bob made friends everywhere he went and kept his friends for life. He found solace in the mountains and making his own life his way and taught us all by example how to be authentic. A lover of fishing, wildlife, dogs, road trips, country music and spending time with loved ones he will be remembered with a smile.
