Betty Gallo

May 26, 1925 — December 17, 2019

Betty Jane (McClatchie) Gallo passed away on December 17, 2019 in her home of 70 years with her family by her side. Born May 26, 1925 in Keese Mills, she married Phillip Gallo in Saranac Lake on March 24, 1946.

In her early years, Betty and Phil were student pilots, a fact she was very proud of. Betty enjoyed spending time with her family, especially grandchildren, great grandchildren and great great-grandchildren. She enjoyed spending time at the Saranac Lake Adult Center and playing Bingo. Betty also enjoyed walking. Many years ago, Betty was a foster parent volunteer at Sunmount.

Betty worked all her life in various places to include the Lake Placid National Bell Store, The Dress Factory, The Shoe Factory, Lake Placid Club and most recently the Lake Placid Hilton until her retirement in 2008.

Betty is survived by her son Phillip (Lisa) Gallo, her sister Suzanne (Robert) Villancourt, her son-in-law Robert Colby, 9 grandchildren: Gretchen, Tobie, Casey, Brooke and Kendal Gallo, Sarah, Katie and Stephanie Colby and Bridget Cloud Thomas. She is also survived by many great grandchildren, great great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Betty was predeceased by her husband Phillip, her mother and father Reginald and Lena (Blanchard) McClatchie, her daughter Elizabeth “Betty Jo” Colby, her sister Molly Michaels, her brother and sister-in-law Ned and Jackie McClatchie and most recently her beloved best buddy “Oscar” her yorkie.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home, 20 Church Street, Saranac Lake, NY 12983. At Betty’s request, there will be no calling hours. Services will be held at a later date and at the convenience of the family.
