Evelyn Wood

March 9, 1913 — September 28, 2019

With sincere sadness and sorrow, Evelyn Winona Casselman Wood gained her wings and went home to the Lord with her loving family. Evelyn passed at the age of 106, on September 28th 2019, at her home where she lived with her daughter, Yola Wood Hemingway and her husband Ronald Hemingway on Cold Brook Rd in Saranac. She was born in Louisville Landing, Massena NY on March 9, 1913, the daughter of the late William Casselman and late Julia Sheets Casselman.

Evelyn married on February 6th, 1932 to her husband Clifton L. Wood who gained his wings on February 15th 1985. Her loving family who gained their wings prior to her are her daughter Barbara Wood Roberts and her son-in-law Francis Roberts, her son Lawrence “Larry” Wood, her sister Pansy Casselman Douglas and her husband Jack, and her brother Daniel Casselman and his wife Marion. Her three brother and sisters-in-law Ernest Wood and his wife Evelyn, Herman Wood and his wife Marie and Clifford Wood and his wife Dorothy,.

She is survived by her caregiver and loving daughter Yola and her husband Ronald Hemingway. Her grandchildren Mark Roberts, Darry Roberts and his wife Paula, and his children Justin and Barbara. Amy Dubuque and her companion Jerry, and her children Shelly, Brandy and Lydiah. Holly Waldron and her husband Gerald and their children Jesse and Sheena. Tim Roberts and his children Corey, Heather and Nikki. Paul Wood, Michael Wood and his wife Marcy, Lawrence "Larry" Wood Jr and his wife Patty and their children Matthew, Jessica and Abigal, and David Wood, along with her great, great grandchildren. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law Barbara Maynard Wood. A nephew Robert Wood and his wife Renalda, and a niece Jean Smart and her husband Roger, and many great nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her five loving caregivers, her great niece Colette Taylor and her close friends Patricia Siskavich, Gloria Pelletier, Bonnie Allen and Joyce Parrotte, who gave her the best care ever.

As we all know, Evelyn was the most loving and caring, hardworking woman around. When she was a young girl, she started working at her parent’s country store delivering baked goods and vegetables to the camps on the bay on the St. Lawrence River and during her summer vacations she would travel to work at Trudeau Institute in Saranac Lake. She graduated at the age of 18 from Massena High School and married her husband Clifton, where they owned a farm on the St Lawrence Islands. Later they moved to Saranac Lake and eventually to their farm on the Cold Brook Rd in Saranac. Besides their milking farm Evelyn also worked at Hydro-Molding Plastics in Plattsburgh and in her later years she worked for Judge Lewis. She loved nature and gardening and she had the best green thumb for growing vegetables and flowers. But her passion was painting, she loved oil on canvas paintings, and if you knew her than it's a good possibility that you have one or two of her paintings on your wall.

At Evelyn's request and because she believed and enjoyed helping everyone, her body will go to science as an anatomical gift to the Albany Medical Center where she hopes to continue to help others.
