Ernest Schmidt

Ernest C. Schmidt, age 92, of Saranac Lake, died Tuesday, July 9, 2019 at Elderwood of Uihlein at Lake following a brief illness.

Born in New Rochelle, NY on September 4, 1926, he was the son of Ernest and Lucy (Gerstner) Schmidt. He married Marian Elizabeth Torkelson on November 21, 1948 in Baldwin, NY. She predeceased him on June 13, 2019.

Ernest co-owned and operated the Sara Placid Liquor Store in Saranac Lake, Resort Home Services and Resort Feed and Seed in Saranac Lake. He was a Boy Scout leader for over 10 years in New Jersey and had also served on the Town of Santa Clara Town Board for 21 years. He enjoyed driving school bus for the Saranac Lake Central School District for many years. He especially enjoyed working on old cars and boating.

He is survived by three sons Donald (Barbara) Schmidt of Saranac Lake, Rick (Debbie) Schmidt of Myrtle Beach, SC and Steven (Mickey) Schmidt of Saranac Lake, 9 Grand Children and 16 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter Christine Ann Meclenburg and one sister Barbara Ann Schmidt.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. Funeral services will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family.
