Belva Sinclair Plosila, 91, of Vermontville and formerly of Saranac Lake passed away peacefully on June 16, 2019, at Meadowbrook Healthcare in Plattsburgh.
She was born on June 10, 1928, in Cleveland, OH, the daughter of Harry and Dorothea (Sinclair) Jackman. After her early childhood in Cleveland, she moved to her hometown of Northampton, MA.
Belva married Daniel Plosila on September 20, 1952, at the Florence Congregational Church in Florence, MA.
She was a graduate of both Northampton High School and Northampton Commercial College. She worked in agricultural retail and banking until starting her family.
Belva is survived by her husband Daniel Plosila of Vermontville; two children: Donald Plosila of Ballston Spa, and Joyce (Scott) Schimele of Greenacres, FL; three grandchildren: Heather Rose (Rob) Austin, Heidi (Pierre) Bordeleau, and Erik (fiancée Kira) Plosila; and five great-grandchildren: Elizabeth, Abigail, Robert, Emma, and Logan. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Louise Plosila of Saranac Lake.
During her early childhood, she was preceded in death by her sister Norma Jackman.
Belva was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Saranac Lake, and for many years enjoyed being a member of the Saranac Lake women’s bowling league and their annual bowling trips. She enjoyed sewing and teaching those skills to her daughter Joyce, as well as sharing her many different crafts as gifts to family and friends. She was an avid piano player.
Belva was a lifelong Cleveland Indians fan. She was a lover of all animals and especially grey tiger cats. In her golden years, Belva and Dan discovered their love for Samoyed dogs. They shared this passion with others in many ways, including therapy visits to area nursing homes with their Samoyeds.
Belva’s family would like to especially thank the staff at Meadowbrook Healthcare, where she had lived in recent years. Although dementia took away her mind, she never lost her spirit. She can now rest in peace.
At her request, there will be no funeral or calling hours. A private celebration of her life will be arranged later at the convenience of her family.
