Obituary for Michael P. "Red" Patnode

Michael P. “Red” Patnode, age 64, of Saranac Lake, died Wednesday, November 28, 2018 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born in Saranac Lake, New York on June 08, 1954, he was the son of Robert and Adelaide (Prue) Patnode.

Red was a lifelong resident of the area and had been employed by the New York State Department of Transportation for many years until his retirement. Following his retirement he drove bus for Franklin County Transportation for several years. Red is a charter member of the Paul Smiths Gabriels Volunteer Fire Department, past member of the Saranac Lake Volunteer Fire Department and the St. Regis Falls Volunteer Fire Department. He is a veteran of the United States Army serving during the Vietnam War from 1971to 1974. Red was an avid outdoorsman and hunter. He especially loved his animals.

He is survived by several aunts and uncles including Roland Patnode of Saranac Lake and Mildred Patnode of Onchiota, many nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends including Colleen Reed Hough of Saranac Lake He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A graveside service and celebration of life will take place in the spring at Mt. View Cemetery in Gabriels.
