John Crary

John G. Crary, 65, of Paul Smiths, NY, died Thursday, October 25, 2018 at the Adirondack Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

John was born in Saranac Lake on May 30, 1953 the son of Newell and Fannie (Tyler) Crary.

John served in the U.S. Army for 21 years; he was an Airborne Ranger, veteran of Desert Storm and retired as a Lieutenant Colonel. John was an active member of the Masons. He was a Grand Lecturer and past Master of Hancock Lodge 311, Leavenworth, Ks. and The Kansas State Lodge of Research. John also joined the Whiteface Mountain Lodge 789 of Saranac Lake, NY.

John loved his family, his Country, the outdoors and learning. He will be dearly missed.

John married Sharon Smith on July 8, 1972. Together they raised 3 children, a son Benjamin (Whitney) Crary of Columbia, MO, two daughters Laura (Craig) Hanzel of Atchison, KS and Megan (Isaiah) Stevenson of Ft. Drum, NY and ten grandchildren. John is also survived by two brothers Newell (Gail) of Kenewick, WA and Jeff (Debbie) of Wakfield, RI. John was predeceased by his mother, father and a grandson (Hunter).

John’s family will receive friends at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake on Saturday November 3, 2018 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM. A celebration of life will immediately follow at 12:30 PM at the funeral home with Rev. Joanne White officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at Saint John in the Wilderness Cemetery n Paul Smith, NY.

Friends wishing to remember John Crary may make memorial contributions to the Tri-Lakes Humane Society in care of the funeral home. Family and friends can also share their memories and sign the online guestbook at fortunekeoughfuneralhome.com.
