Obituary for Dinah Russell Reid

Dinah Russell Reid, 66, died peacefully Saturday, June 16, 2018 at her home in Vermontville, New York, surrounded by her family.

She was born on March 16, 1952 in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, the beloved daughter of Richard Forester Reid, who predeceased her and Shirley Reid Thompson. She grew up in Bedford N.Y. and spent many happy summers in Lake Placid.

After graduating from The University of Denver, Dinah pursued a career as a social worker for many years, before finding her true passion in gardening. She founded Drragonfly Gardens in Lake Placid, specializing in annual and perennial gardens and winter greens. Her talent of creating colorful cottage gardens will be enjoyed by many for years to come.

Dinah’s love of her four children; Bridget Reid (John Chen), Juliana, Thomas and Matthew Saehrig was unconditional. All who knew her, admired her devotion to her family. She loved talking to them, giving advice and watching them grow up to be thoughtful loving people. She also leaves behind their father Thomas Edward Saehrig. Dinah was blessed with two grandchildren, whom she adored, Ethan and Chloe Reid.
Dinah’s nurturing went beyond her children, including many of their friends, who knew that her front door was always open.

Dinah is survived by her siblings, Jessie Reid Bradley (Jeffrey), Shirley Reid and her brother Dick Reid (Jo). She loved her nieces and nephew, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins, with whom she enjoyed spending long lazy days by the water.

Dinah’s family would like to thank the many friends and family members that spent time with her over the last several months, especially DJ Fowler. They would also like to thank the kind, loving, and professional care provided by the Franklin County hospice team.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A celebration of life service will be held at 11am on August 10th at St. Eustace Church, 2450 Main Street, Lake Placid, NY.

Friends wishing to honor Dinah’s love of good book and storytelling are encouraged to make memorial contributions to the Lake Placid Public Library, 2471 Main street Lake Placid, NY 12946. Family and friends can also share their memories and sign the online guestbook at fortunekeoughfuneralhome.com.
