Peter Cassavaugh, 81, of Bloomingdale, NY died peacefully on Wednesday February 7, 2018 at Elderwood of Uihlein at Lake Placid.
He was born in Saranac Lake, NY on September 21, 1936, the son of William Percy and Agnes (Pearson) Cassavaugh. He married Sandra Beyrle in AuSable Forks, NY on December 29, 1973. She predeceased him on April 8, 2016.
Peter was a life-resident of the area and graduated from Saranac Lake High School. He worked for North Country Community College in the maintenance department for 17 years, and for Dr. Brown at the animal hospital for several years. Peter loved to spend time with his family, chop wood, sing little tunes and jig to fiddle music. He also loved his boxer dogs, especially the one named Patsy.
Peter is survived by his daughter Melissa Cascio (Andre) of Highland, NY, two brothers Tom (Mary Lou) Cassavaugh of Bloomingdale, and John Cassavaugh of Lenor, NC. One sister, Patricia Lisak of New City, NY. Peter is also survived by two grandchildren, Evan and Sophia Cascio, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews that he loved very much.
Peter was preceded in death by his parents, a brother James Cassavaugh, and three sisters June Boomhower, Catherine Rascoe, and Luella Willis. Calling hours will be held at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake on Monday February 12, 2018 from 4pm to 7pm, with a funeral service taking place on Tuesday February 13, 2018 at 11:00am at St. Paul’s Church in Bloomingdale with the Reverend Patrick Ratigan officiating. Burial will take place at St. Paul’s Cemetery in Bloomingdale in the Spring.
