Obituary for Wayne Wright Tucker

Wayne Wright Tucker
Wayne W. Tucker, age 78, of Rainbow Lake, former longtime resident of Glenville, NY died peacefully at home surrounded by his family November 17, 2015, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in Metuchen, NJ, raised in Madison, NJ, Wayne spent over 40 years in the Schenectady area as President/CEO of Kimberly Computer Services, and VP of Finserv Computer Services. Wayne was an active member of the Capital District and Glenville YMCA serving as chairman and secretary of the Board of Trustees and as Founder and Promoter of the Annual Pickleball Fundraising Tournament benefiting YMCA scholarships. His love of Pickleball resulted in many friends and medals at several Senior Olympics national competitions. As a history buff, Wayne collected over 3,000 Schenectady area antique postcards and memorabilia, recently gifted to the Schenectady Historical Society. Wayne spent many summers with his family boating on Great Sacandaga Lake; as the Secretary of the Sacandaga Boat Club he was responsible for their monthly newsletter.

After retiring to the Adirondacks, Wayne continued to share his love of Pickleball by organizing Pickleball nights for students & community members at Paul Smith’s College. Wayne was active as a board member of the Adirondack Scenic Railroad and organized Lake Clear Junction Train Depot Centennial celebration, now an annual event. Wayne also enjoyed tandem biking, volunteering at Paul Smith’s Visitor Interpretive Center, offering tours of White Pine Camp, and representing the Adirondack Carousel on its Board.

Wayne is survived by his wife and best friend of 45 years, Elizabeth (Betty) Tucker, sons Wayne W. Tucker II of Brewster, NY, Gary Holmes (Agnès) of Mountain View, CA, daughters Janice Holmes of Endicott, NY, Wendy LeBlanc (Rolland) of West Hebron, NY, Jill Brockway (John) of Lake Clear, NY, 11 grandchildren (Stephanie, Wayne, John, Michelle, Joey, Acadia, Rachel, Remi, Audrey, Allison, Amélie) 8 great-grandchildren, brothers Joel Tucker (Marty) of FL, William Tucker (Fran) of VA, and sister Sharon Sittig (Bob) of IL. His family and friends will miss his pun influenced sense of humor, his ceaseless history lessons that enlightened us all, his generous spirit, and abundant love for his family.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. Calling hours are Friday, November 20, 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. and Saturday, November 21, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. for friends traveling from afar, immediately followed by a service from 11:30 a.m. - noon.
