Russell Abrams

October 2, 1956 — January 19, 2014

Russell Abrams, age 57, of 121 Campion Way, Vermontville, died Sunday, January 19, 2014 at his home surrounded by his friends and family when he died peacefully in his home.

Born in Ridgewood, New Jersey on October 02, 1956, he was the son of Clarence and Ruth (Donner) Abrams. Russell married Kimberly Stringer on July 28, 1979 in St. Bernard's Church.

Russell had been a resident of the area since attending Paul Smiths College in the fall of 1974. He had been employed at Camp Gabriels as a vocational instructor for over 20 years teaching horticulture. He had also worked at Adirondack correctional facility in Ray Brook for a year following the closure of Camp Gabriels. Russ was as avid outdoorsman who not only enjoyed hunting, fishing and nature but spent many years on his property where he built his own home, landscaping and many beautiful gardens which will be enjoyed for years to come. Russ also had a special love of animals, both in nature and many wonderful dogs throughout the years, including his current beloved dog Ben and Grand dogs that loved to visit."

He is survived by his wife Kimberly Abrams of Vermontville, one son Brian Abrams of Saranac Lake, two daughters Danielle Abrams Akey of Bloomingdale and Nicole M. Abrams of Saranac Lake, one brother James Abrams of Elmwood Park, NJ and two sisters Carol Sohlman of Wilmington, DE and Kathleen Hopf of Oakland, NJ, five grandchildren Caleb and Emma Akey of Bloomingdale, and Skyler, Jesse and Isaiah Buckley of Saranac Lake, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 from 4:00 PM - 6:00PM. A memorial service will immediately follow at 6:00 P.M. at the funeral home, with Rev. Mark Reilly officiating. A reception will immediately follow at the Bloomingdale Volunteer Fire Dept hall.
