Richard Stringer

October 25, 1951 — August 8, 2017

Richard “Rick” Stringer 65 of Saranac Lake passed away August 8th at the Essex Center for Rehabilitation and Healthcare in Elizabethtown, NY, where he had been a resident since February. Rick finally succumbed to cancer after a courageously fought year long battle.

Rick was born in Saranac Lake, the first of 5 children to Robert and June (Lavarnway) Stringer on October 25, 1951.

He attended St. Bernard’s Elementary School and graduated from St.Pius X High School in 1969. Rick joined the Navy in 1969 and served as an electrician until his retirement in 2001. In 2005 Rick went to work as a custodian for the Saranac Lake Central School District where he remained until his retirement in March of 2017.

He was predeceased by his father Robert “Bob” Stringer in 1976 and his brother Lawrence “Larry” Stringer in 2008.

Rick is survived by his mother June (Stringer) Sherburne, his step father Dale (Bud) Sherburne, of Parishville, NY and his Aunt Jean (Morgan) McDonough of Saranac Lake. He is also survived by his three sisters and their families: Peggy & Dick Dora (Rob & Nick) of Bloomingdale, NY, Linda & Art Spellman (AJ, Megan, Shayla and Reilly) of South Burlington, Vermont, and Nancy & Dave Whitson (David, Alicia, Tailor & Trinity) of Vermontville, NY, and a sister-in-law Brenda Stringer (Murphy & Sam) of Saranac Lake. He also is survived by a step sister, Heidi Sherburne of Potsdam and a step brother Dan Sherburne of Vermont Rick also leaves behind an ex-wife Anna Stringer, their daughter Raylyn and her 6 children, all of Louisiana, another daughter Jessica Stringer and her 4 children of Texas. Altogether Rick had 10 grandchildren. He also leaves behind several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Rick was an avid golfer and a die-hard Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns fan fan.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake from 12:00 pm to 2:00pm on Saturday August 12, 2017. A memorial service will immediately follow at 2:00 pm at the funeral home with Rev. Paul Kelly officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard's Cemetery.
