Helen Coady

September 22, 1930 — June 4, 2017

Helen G. Coady, age 86, of Bloomingdale and formerly of Plattsburgh, died Sunday, June 04, 2017 at the Elderwood of Uihlein at Lake Placid.

Born in St. John's, Newfoundland on September 22, 1930, she was the daughter of Thomas and Catherine Walsh.

Helen affectionately known as “Nanny”, grew up in Newfoundland where she met and married Denis Kevin Coady on June 8, 1953 in St. John's Newfoundland. They moved to the United States in 1965 and settled in Plattsburgh, after her husband Denis was stationed at Plattsburgh Air Force Base. Helen loved taking care of others and shined in her work as a waitress for more than 30 years at the Royal Savage Inn in Plattsburgh. She also worked as a caregiver at Lake Forest Senior Home in Plattsburgh for over 10 years until her retirement at the age of 82. Helen was the perfect hostess and made everyone feel welcome. She loved Irish music, the seashore, Elvis and fine dining. She also enjoyed lottery tickets and an occasional trip to the casino or horse races. But most of all Helen enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by five children Denise Coady of New Mexico, Donna Favaro of Massachusetts, Diane (Piers) Ramsay of New Mexico, Tim Coady of Tennessee and Colleen (Brad) Parker of Vermontville, nine grandchildren Coady Richards, Maya and Blaire Ramsay, Hollie and Tyler Favaro, Hannah and Megan Parker and Jillian and Denis Coady, one sister Margaret Thomas of St. John's, Newfoundland, one brother William Walsh of Montreal, Canada, and several nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, one sister Mary Byrne, one brother Michael Walsh, and one son-in-law, Scott Favaro.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 2:00 PM on Saturday June 10, 2017 at St. Bernard's Church, with Rev. Paul Kelly officiating.
