Annie Nelly Murphy

Annie Nelly Gabrielle Eugénie Deleury Murphy, age 85, of 212 County Route 55, Saranac Lake, died Friday, May 05, 2017.
Born in Joué-les-Tours, France on May 16, 1931, she was the daughter of Paul and Blanche-Aymée (Rousseau) Deleury. Annie was raised in France and learned the millinery trade from her mother. In the 1950’s, she worked in London and was the head milliner for the Queen of England and her mother for two years. Two of her hat designs were featured in Paris Match magazine.
Annie met Mark Earl Murphy, III, while he was serving in the U.S. Army in France. They married on August 9, 1958 in Joué-les Tours, France. After her husband left the Army in 1965, they moved to Saranac Lake. Annie proudly became a naturalized U.S. citizen in 1977. In addition to being the mother of seven children, she worked at various local businesses, including Jackson’s Dry Cleaners(which they owned until 1971) and the Dress Factory, and made custom fur hats for some of the local mushers. She and her husband, Mark, owned and operated Murphy’s Cleaning and Restoration for over thirty years.
She was an active member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church in Bloomingdale and the Order of the Eastern Star. She was a devoted mother and wife and loved gardening, sewing,cooking and needlepoint.
She is survived by her husband Mark of Saranac Lake, one son - Andrew (Patty) Murphy of Pensacola Beach, FL, four daughters - Marie-Aymee Fisk of Paul Smiths, Karen (Curtis) Page of Saranac Lake, Susan (Timothy) Goff of Vermontville and Jessica (Eric) Kinsman of Saranac Lake and nine grandchildren - Charles (Christine) Fisk, Patrick Fisk, Aymée-Lynne Fisk, Bruce Page, Phillippe Goff, Travis Goff, Samuel Goff, Alexander Kinsman and Nathaniel Kinsman, and her brother and only sibling - François (Marie-Claude) Deleury of St. Brieuc, France and his four daughters and their families.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Charles Francis Murphy and Mark Earl Murphy, IV, and one son-in-law Charlie Fisk.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10:00 AM on Friday May 20, 2017 at St. Paul’s Church in Bloomingdale, with Rev. Patrick Ratigan officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard’s Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
