Richard “Dick” May, 88, of 78 Will Rogers Drive, Saranac Lake, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2017.
He was born in Syracuse, New York on November 19, 1928, he was the son of George and Bernice (Clift) May. Richard married Helen Case on September 26, 1953 in Marcellus, NY.
Dick retired from the insurance industry in 1984, and moved to Saranac Lake in 1985, where he owned and operated the Adirondack Motel and The Cottage, a Bed and Breakfast. He is a Veteran of the United States Navy serving during the Korean War from 1948 to 1952. He was honored to be able to take part in an Honor Flight to Washington, DC to visit the Korean War Memorial in October 2014. He was a member of Lions International and past president and director of the Saranac Lake Chamber of Commerce.
Dick enjoyed watching NY Yankee baseball, NY Giant football and Syracuse basketball on TV.
He is survived by his wife Helen of Saranac Lake, three sons, William (Karen) May of Ellicott City, MD, Kenneth (Zeny) May of St. Joseph, MI, Richard May of Malone, two daughters Connie Dewbury of Malone and Linda Charette of Saranac Lake, 7 grandchildren, Erik, Erica, Anna, Joseph, Adam, Jessica (Hugo), Ashlee, and seven great-grandchildren.
Dick was predeceased by his parents, a brother George, and a son-in-law Gordon Dewbury.
Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held at Saranac Village at Will Rogers on Saturday, April 15 between 2 and 4pm.
Memorial donations in Richard’s honor can be made to North Country Honor Flight or High Peaks Hospice.
