Hawley Snyder

Hawley R. Snyder, age 82, of Saranac Lake, died Saturday, March 04, 2017 at his home surrounded by his family.

Born in Pierrepont, NY on May 12, 1934, he was the son of Roy and Virginia (Parody) Snyder. Hawley married Frances Lewis on April 4, 1959 in Norfolk, NY.

Hawley had been employed as the Head Custodian for the Lake Placid Elementary School for many years until his retirement. Prior to that he had worked as a driver for Rich Plan, drove school bus for Saranac Lake and Lake Placid school districts and was the milk man for Hill Crest Dairy Farm in Norfolk. Hawley is a veteran of the United States army serving from 1955 to 1958. He was a past member of the Saranac Lake Elks Club, BPOE 1508. He was a hunter, fisherman and especially loved spending time at their Franklin Falls Camp.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years Frances Snyder of Saranac Lake, two sons Hawley Snyder and Edward Snyder of Saranac Lake, three daughters Mary Ellen Martin and her partner Pat Manner of Bloomingdale, Kristine (Thomas) Jermano of Bloomingdale, Irene Snyder and her partner Patrick Giblin of Saranac Lake, one brother Verde Snyder of Canton, two sisters Rhoda Bond of Norfolk and Ellen Moore of Potsdam, seven grandchildren Billy and Kyle Martin, Kaitlyn (Eban) Ploof, Chase and Tyler Jermano, Ethan Paye and Ashlyn Snyder and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one sister Irene and two brothers Horace and Hollis Snyder.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, March 8, 2017 at St. Bernard’s Church with Rev. C.J. McAvoy officiating. Burial will take place in St. Bernard’s Cemetery in the spring.
