Funeral services have been set for Walter J. Lester, age 87, formerly of Gabriels and Saranac Village at Will Rogers, who died Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Elderwood of Uihlein at Lake Placid where he had been a resident since 2012
Born in Paul Smiths, New York on January 15, 1930, he was the son of Leon and Della (Gravel) Lester. Walter married Hazel Martin April 15, 1953. She predeceased him in 1985.
Walter worked for Great Lake Carbon Company. He is a veteran of the United States Army serving from 1948 to 1952.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews including Mary Lou Lester of Brushton, Leon Lester of Saranac Lake, Larry McGarr of Bar Harbor, Maine and L. Raymond McGarr of Virginia. He was predeceased by 13 brothers and sisters.
Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Saturday May 6, 2017. A funeral service will immediately follow with Rev, Raymond McGarr officiating. Burial will follow at Mountain View Cemetery in Brighton.
