Allen Hoyt

Allen R. Hoyt, age 88, of 756 County Route 18, Lake Clear, died Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at home surrounded by his family.

Born in Malone, New York on October 05, 1927, he was the son of Robert Sitifer and Pearl Warner. Allen married Dorothy Richardson on April 2, 1945 in St. Bernard's Church. She predeceased him January 10, 2004.

Allen and his wife Dorothy owned a farm in Lake Clear in which they operated a dairy farm from 1950 to 1977. They also grew potatoes which they shipped nationally and internationally. In addition to running the family farm Allen also drove school bus for his step-father Aaron Hoyt in the early 1950's and 60's before centralization of the school district.

Together Allen and his wife Dorothy owned and operated Hoyt’s Taxi from 1963 until the late 70’s. Allen was instrumental in the construction and operation of the Saranac Lake Speedway in the 1960’s. He later worked for the Town of Harriestown.

He loved spending time with his family, especially all his grandchildren. He also enjoyed camping and had a special love for horses.

He is survived by four daughters; Donna Magee and Dennis Mullen of Lake Clear; Susan Phelan and her husband Thomas of Saranac Lake, Lynn Hoyt of Saratoga, NY; Tammy McCormick and her husband Bernard of Lake Clear, NY, 12 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by one brother James Hoyt of Saranac Lake, one sister Carol M. Hesseltine and a son-in-law Eugene Strack of Lake Clear. He was predeceased by his father, mother, step father Aaron Hoyt, one daughter Holly Strack and one sister Ann.

Funeral arrangements are in care of the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home in Saranac Lake. There will be no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 2:00 PM on Monday May 2, 2016 at St. John's Oratory in Lake Clear with Rev. Patrick Ratigan officiating. Reception to follow.
