Lawrence Smith

Lawrence Smith, age 76, of 35 Willow Way, Saranac Lake, died Thursday, November 07, 2013 at AMC-Uihlein Mercy Center in Lake Placid where he had been a resident since September.

He was the son of the late Lawrence & Mary Smith. He was born on April 28, 1937 in Albany New York. He married Lorraine M. Roche on March 29th, 1958 at St. Bernard’s Church in Saranac Lake.

He is survived by his wife Lorraine, two sons Larry (Peggy) and their children Lauren & Andrew of Scotia, Patrick (Susan) and their children Padrick (Danielle), Olive, Justin (Jane) all of Amsterdam, two great grandchildren, one sister Mary Beth (Wayne) Bickford and their children Tammy (Jim) Blair, and David (Sandy) Bickford of Ray Brook, one brother Terry and his children Patty & Peter of Freehold. He is also survived by cousins Patty Reilly & family, Kevin O'Hara & family, Michael Heelan &family and Edward Heelan.

Larry attended Saranac Lake High School and then joined the United State Marines. After being honorably discharged he returned to Saranac Lake and was a carpet layer for G. Carver Rice and several other businesses. In 1970 he went to work for N.Y.S. Dept of Corrections and worked at several facilities. He retired from Green Correctional in 1995. Larry loved golf, fishing and bowling.

Calling hours will take place at the Fortune-Keough Funeral Home on Sunday November 10, 2013 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 9:00 AM on Monday November 11, 2013 at St. Bernard's Church in Saranac Lake with Rev. Mark Reilly officiating. Burial will follow at St. Bernard Cemetery in Saranac Lake.
